Tony's Mountain DaysAll pictures taken by Tony Sainsbury using an Olympus FE-310 or a Canon IXUS 95 IS. To see my latest pictures click on the 'Latestpictures' link. To see pictures from previous walks click on 'Archive'. Sun Feb 7th. Following a beautifully clear and sunny day yesterday when unfortunately I was busy, this morning was disappointing with low fog obscuring almost all hills. Ever optimistic that the conditions would improve I drove over to the Newlands Valley with the intention of walking around the Ard Crags, Knott Rigg circuit in the opposite direction to the way I normally do it. Conditions did not improve and at the col from where I would have ascended the very steep hillside to Knott Rigg I was in thick mist. As I have said previously on my website I have done my share of walking into a thick grey blanket over the years so having waited for a while to see if there was any sign of it lifting I decided to descend. Many years ago three of us set off from the roadside near Achnasheen in NW Scotland and twenty feet above the road we entered the mist. We continued on our way, ascended two Munros and on our way down walked out of the mist twenty feet above the road. I understand that the views from these two Munros are particularly good, pity that all we saw was that grey blanket. But then we were young and were just "bagging Munros." So.... no new "Latestpictures" this week but below is one of the few shots that I did take today Follow this link to Asset-ICT Consultancy Ltd. who host Eyeonthelakes and who I should like to thank for their continuing help and efficient service. A personally signed "Eyeonthelakes" CD of a selection of my walks is still available, it features more than fifty days on the hills and contains over 1000 pictures resized to 800 x 600 pixels for better viewing. The CD will cost £5 and is available from Fred Holdsworth's Bookshop on Rydal Road Ambleside. The CD is not intended as a walking guide but is just a personal record of enjoyable days on the hills. Comments and suggestions about my website are always welcome.tony@edinboro5.freeserve.co.uk I should also be pleased to hear from you if we have met on the hills at anytime but please indicate in the subject line where or when we met.
