Sun Aug 24th. It's a bank holiday weekend and the Lake District is absolutely packed. Traffic and people everywhere except on the hills. One of those times when I definitely do not go anywhere in the car. It had been very wet overnight and the early morning didn't look too promising but by 10ish the weather seemed to be improving rapidly. So, setting off from home I took a walk over Loughrigg and Silver How to Grasmere meeting remarkably few people on the way. Now I did this same walk in pouring rain a few weeks ago so although I did take quite a few pictures this week's "Latestpictures" and the front page are from our Thursday walk from Martindale round on the eastern side of Ullswater.

A personally signed "Eyeonthelakes" CD of a selection of my walks is still available, it features more than fifty days on the hills and contains over 1000 pictures resized to 800 x 600 pixels for better viewing. The CD will cost £5 and is available from Fred Holdsworth's Bookshop on Rydal Road Ambleside. The CD is not intended as a walking guide but is just a personal record of enjoyable days on the hills.

"Latestpictures" Hallin Fell and Steel Knotts.

Archive. Pictures from the previous four walks.

Thurs Aug 21st Approx 12.40pm Looking towards the distant Blencathra from close to the top of Steel Knotts. That's Ullswater in the centre of the picture.
