Summer?....On the Fairfield Horseshoe

No real need for me to introduce this very popular 10mile circuit starting and ending in Ambleside. Having already been around the Horseshoe in the snowy conditions of late January a summer circuit makes a nice change. However as you can see from the pictures it was not very summer like. At least there was no rain and in spite of last week's persistent rain it was not too bad along the sections that are normally boggy Not very many people about either. We met only a few on the way up and a just few more on the way down from the top. Too misty for any good summit pictures and not a place to linger about for long.

Looking across the Vale of Rydal towards Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam.

Ambleside and Windermere from the path to Low Pike.

At the cairn on Dove Crag.

And close to the summit of Fairfield.

Looking back towards the mist covered Fairfield from the shoulder of Great Rigg.

And from a little lower and below the cloud a glimpse of Grisedale Tarn with Seat Sandal to it's left.

Descending from Great Rigg with Esthwaite Water and Coniston Water in the distance.

Grasmere and Wetherlam from close to Heron Pike.

And finally......Heading towards Nab Scar at the end of the Western arm of the Horseshoe.
